The SJSU ASHRAE Student Branch was blessed with Genentech Senior Engineer and Regional Director ASHRAE Region X, Jack Zarour, as our February Guest Speaker. Jack's presentation to students included a past project - the building of a Genentech facility in Singapore. He described the remarkable logistics coordination between the design firm in California, manufacturers in South Carolina and final site in Singapore. Most of the communication was done via video conferencing and email versus very expensive and time consuming travel. The units that were designed were prefabricated modular clean rooms and facility/mechanical rooms. Jack also included a few facts about Singapore culture. At the end of his presentation he answered questions from students. One student asked about Jack's path to his current career. Jack answered with his formal education at Cal Poly SLO, his time at National Semiconductor, creation of his own firm and finally role at Genentech.
